Her phone rings.
Life as she knew it is gone.
A soundless slumber in the after of noon jolts her out of the peace she once knew. Only a second before things were normal, everything was real.
Frantic she screams, no! no! oh my god, what do I do? What am I supposed to do? What am I going to do? I'm sorry! I'll be there soon, oh my god, I'm sorry, I'll be there in a minute, I don't know what to do, I'm sorry.
A soundless slumber in the after of noon stole her peace.
Amidst the crying the screaming she had forgotten she was not alone. The girl in front of her asking her what's happened, asking her what's wrong, the girl that looks like him. She almost whispers the words that she knows will break the girls heart, she doesn't want the words to leave her mouth but they have to. "It's your dad."
She holds the little girls face in her hands, "We're going to be alright, we're going to be alright." More than anything she's trying to convince herself. "He told you to be strong, he'd want you to be strong. We're going to be alright. He loves you more than anything."
A soundless slumber has stolen her peace.
She drives as though someone else has taken over her body, her focus is somewhere else. She parks really far she's forgotten where she is and how she's supposed to get to where she needs to be. She holds the girls hand, she doesn't feel the cold. The girl repeats only one word, the name of her little sister. Selfless.
They can't find the right place. They almost don't want to. They embrace his mother and they go in to see him. She cries she strokes his hair. The little girl stands in the corner of the room, she needs to breath, she needs this not to be real, she needs to leave. She takes the little girl out goes back into the room, kisses him, holds him, cries.
His silent slumber has stolen her peace.
His forever slumber has stolen their peace.
His slumber cuts like a knife. It has stolen their peace.
Rest in peace D, our world was made better by knowing you.
